Indian students who wish to study in the United States will typically require a student visa, specifically the F-1 visa for academic students or the M-1 visa for vocational students. The following are the requirements for obtaining an F-1 or M-1 visa
Acceptance letter from a SEVP-approved school
The student must have been accepted into an educational institution that is registered in the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).
Proof of financial support
The student must provide proof that they have sufficient funds to cover their tuition and living expenses while they are studying in the US.
Passport
The student must have a valid passport that will remain valid for at least six months beyond the end date of their intended stay in the US.
Nonimmigrant visa application, Form DS-160
The student must complete the online visa application and pay the applicable visa processing fee.
Visa interview
The student will be required to attend an in-person interview with a consular officer at the US embassy or consulate. During the interview, the student must demonstrate their strong ties to their home country and their intent to return after completing their studies in the US.
SEVIS fee payment
Before the visa can be issued, the student must pay the SEVIS fee, which is an administrative fee that covers the cost of maintaining the SEVP.
It's important to note that visa requirements and processing times can change, and students should confirm the most up-to-date information by visiting the U.S. Department of State's website.
